5 Siesta Key Outdoor Activities to do During Winter

Some might argue that winter is one of the best times to visit Siesta Key. With slightly cooler temperatures than what the hot summers bring in and most likely warmer temperatures compared to where you are coming from, there are plenty of Siesta Key winter outdoor activities to keep you busy during your vacation. Add these activities to your itinerary and discover some of the best of Florida this winter season.

Canopy Walks

Take your vacation to new heights with a Myakka Canopy walks tour. Walk amongst the treetops, 25 feet to be exact, over the Myakka floor. The Myakka Canopy Walkway is one of only a dozen canopy walkways in the world, making this a truly unique activity. Observe life in the treetops while gaining a new perspective of Florida’s tropic forests, all while discovering that Florida is more than just about beaches.

The Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary

Discover other wildlife beyond the depths of the Gulf with a visit to Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. The Big Cat Sanctuary provides a permanent home for a number of exotic animals who have been rescued and cared for at this large facility. The sanctuary is home to bears, a variety of birds, lions, tortoises, primates, and more. A petting zoo is also available for the children as well.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

Take a stroll through the beautiful grounds at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. This living museum is the perfect Siesta Key winter outdoor activity with 15 acres of lush greens, vibrant tropical blooms, and unique garden displays including the Green Roof, Edible Garden, and the Fragrance Garden.

Siesta Key Farmer’s Market

While in most of the country, winter shuts down outdoor farmer’s markets, but the Siesta Key Farmer’s Market stays up and running all year-round. Every Sunday, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., discover local and regional produce offerings, even in the winter. The winter season brings about fresh, ripe citruses including the Honeybell orange and other local favorites. The market is held at 5104 Ocean Blvd., in the Village.

Just a mile from the Siesta Key Farmer’s Market, Crescent Royale Condominiums is an ideal location for your Siesta Key vacation. Our beachfront property not only offers easy access to the best beaches in the country, but it is also nearby many Siesta Key attractions, including the Siesta Key Village.

Ride the Legacy Trail

Get a little exercise and discover some of Siesta Key and Sarasota’s beauty, offshore. Walk or bike the Legacy Trail, a ten-mile stretch of flat trails that offer historical and nature stops along the way. The cooler months are the best time to take advantage of this trail system due to its lack of shade, which can make a ride in the summer very hot. The closest entrance to the trail from Crescent Royale is at the Palmer Ranch trailhead.
